Clean Drinking Water

In Indonesia, no one has access to safe, affordable drinking water piped to their house.  Diseases resulting from water borne illnesses are common, with 27,000 children dying each year from diarrhea.  Those who can afford to, buy bottled water…but the vast majority boils their water.  Boiling is time consuming, emits millions of tons of greenhouse gasses, and if not properly done, can still make people sick.  In light of this, YMP3 has chosen to partner with Nazava®, an Indonesian company who manufactures affordable drinking water filters, to begin to address the need for safe and affordable drinking water.

Microenterprise Development and Clean Drinking Water?

The Clean Drinking Water program has two parallel foci:  1) The provision of safe and affordable Nazava® water filters within the region of Papua West, and 2) The training of a network local Papuan entrepreneurs how to open their own kiosk to market, sell, and support the water filters within their respective communities.  YMP3 offers training to each of the kiosk entrepreneurs in the following areas:

  • Nazava® water filter technology, maintenance, and troubleshooting
  • Germ theory
  • Business principles based on the Bible
  • Business methods (such as inventory management, accounting, marketing, etc.)

At the time of writing, there are 5 kiosks operating in various villages within the province of West Papua with plans to open 3 more.
