Bible Translation

YMP3 is part of the Papua Partnership which consists of Churches and Organizations that have pledged to work together toward the common goal of seeing lives transformed and impacted by the Word of God. Until now, YMP3 is actively involved  in every effort to make the Scripture available in the people own language and have the Scripture as their guide to know God and to live their lives.

In 1999, Wycliffe Global Alliance  adopted a vision that helps us to focus on the task ahead:

Vision 2025
“By 2025, together with partners worldwide, we aim to see a Bible translation programme begun in all the remaining languages that need one.”

Translation teams find that working with YMP3 partnership is important for the success of Translation and Scripture Use projects. YMP3 provides a strong context for local ownership and sustainable impact of language and translation programs.

Translation teams working with YMP3 follow the best practices as set forth in the “Best Practices Handbook” published by the Asia Area Translation Coordination Team December 2011. To ensure that good translation principles and practices are applied to all translated materials produced under the Papua SE Partnership structure, the role of Papua Partnership Translation Coordinator has been established in the translation domain. At the present time this role is filled by a member of  YMP3. Some of the responsibilities of this  person include: 1) orientate translation facilitators to the “Best Practices Handbook” with emphasis on important procedures and policies; 2) To coordinate consultant checking for translated scripture produced under the Papua Partnership conglomerate. This would include scheduling teams needing to be checked, and to pursue translation consultants outside of the partnership if needed for checking. 3) To identify translators in the region who show potential to become translation consultants and to implement a system for mentoring and training them. This would more than likely include them attending a TCDW. 4) To facilitate format checks of Scripture portions that will be published; 5) Encourage teams to take advantage of the workshops which train MTT to translate, to carry out comprehension checks, and undergo a consultant check.

We are encouraged when we pause to reflect on what  motivates us in all we do. We hold on to this promise of God found in 2 Corinthians 4:1-9.

But we have this treasure in jars of clay to show that this all-surpassing power is from God and not from us. 8 We are hard pressed on every side, but not crushed; perplexed, but not in despair; 9 persecuted, but not abandoned; struck down, but not destroyed. 10 We always carry around in our body the death of Jesus, so that the life of Jesus may also be revealed in our body.
